Police were called in the early hours of this morning following reports that a 21-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted on an area of Lowestoft beach.
The woman had met with the 33-year-old man earlier in the evening.
Officers received the initial call at 12.31am on Sunday, August 13 and, having arrived at the scene near to Hatfield Hotel, the man was subsequently identified to police and was arrested at 1.45am.
The male was taken to Great Yarmouth police investigation centre, where he remains.
Detective Inspector David Dring said: 'Specially trained officers are meeting with the woman today to gain further details about the assault and the scene will be the subject of a forensic examination.'
