Officers were called shortly after 3.30pm on Friday 23 January to reports of people believed to be carrying out the illegal activity on Ely Road.

Police attended, sealed off the area and carried out a search with assistance from the NPAS (National Police Air Service) helicopter.

A 49-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and questioned at Bury Police Investigation Centre (PIC). He has been released on bail until Monday 16 February while enquiries continue.

PC Richard Allan said: 'We would like to remind people that hare coursing is an offence that will not be tolerated by police and I can assure the public that we will act promptly and robustly to pursue offenders committing this type of crime.'
