Re 'Helmet saved my life in crash, says cyclist' Brian Medler's story is a lesson to every cyclist and convinces me that it is now time to make the wearing of a helmet law for cyclists in the UK.

I used to cycle 20 miles every day in order to get to work and back. I never wore a helmet and although the roads I was on were not the busiest, I still had a few near misses.

It got to the stage where I was getting nervous about the journey and decided I had to get a helmet. I didn't in the end as my job changed and I was no longer cycling to work.

The point is that the body can heal itself after an injury but the head cannot, so you must do all you can to protect it.

My message is if you're cycling, wear a helmet. Rob Norris, Sprowston
