One of the major routes into Cromer is set to shut for up to four days next month while a gas connection is made to a flat.

A 40m section of the A148 on West Street will be blocked from March 14 while National Grid contractors make the connection.

Traffic from Cromer will be diverted in a loop along Prince of Wales Road, the A149 coast road and Beach Road to re-join the A148.

Traffic from the Holt direction will use the same diversion loop to enter Cromer.

A National Grid spokesman said the closure was needed so that a gas connection could be made to a single flat in 28 West Street. The gas mains was under the road.

She hoped the work would be completed within a maximum of three days.

But contractors' signs warn that the closure will be in place for four days.

Letters were due to be posted to affected residents and National Grid has pledged to try and maintain access to properties at all times.

The letters add: 'If this is not possible our team will endeavour to make alternative arrangement with you.'
