Lowestoft man in “serious but stable” condition after being crushed

A man from Lowestoft is in a serious but stable condition in hospital following an incident at Ipswich Docks on yesterday, in which another man died.

Emergency services were called to a report of two men being crushed by a section of floating pontoon on Cliff Road just before 6pm.

A man in his 50s and from Ipswich died at the scene, and a man in his 40s from Lowestoft was taken to Ipswich Hospital, his injuries are not life-threatening.

A joint Police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened.

Police, fire and ambulance all attended.
