Five fire crews were called to the AFS site at Commercial Road, Lowestoft, at 12.41pm on Wednesday, August 21.

Firefighters were able to cool the gas cylinder and confirmed it was in a stable condition.

The fire, which is near to the railway line, has also caused disruption on trains heading into and out of the town.

A spokesperson for Greater Anglia confirmed services between Ipswich and Lowestoft, via Saxmundham and Beccles, and Norwich and Lowestoft may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

They said: "Due to a fire near the railway suspected to involve gas cylinders at Lowestoft, disruption is expected until further notice.

"There is a fire near the railway by Lowestoft station, which means it is currently not safe for us to run trains to and from the station."

Trains have now resumed running to the station. The spokesperson said: "The fire brigade and Network Rail response staff have attended the site, extinguished the fire and declared the railway safe to re-open.

"Some services may still be delayed as some parts of the line are single line."

Cancelled services include the Norwich to Lowestoft train at 2.05pm and the returning Lowestoft to Norwich train at 2.57pm.

No one is believed to have been injured by the fire, with the East of England Ambulance Service called as a precaution.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We have been called to attend a fire at Commercial Road in Lowestoft.

"We currently have one ambulance and one ambulance officer vehicle on the scene.

"This has been precautionary as there are presently no reports of casualties.

"However, the incident is still ongoing."

In a post to Facebook, AFS Limited said: "AFS was evacuated this afternoon as a precautionary measure after a gas cylinder hose caught alight. This was swiftly contained by the Fire Services, due to strict emergency drills ran by AFS minimum time elapsed and all staff evacuated to ensure the safety of staff and neighbouring premises."
