Lowestoft-area primary school receives good rating from Ofsted

It comes after Woods Loke Primary School in Oulton Broad received a good rating following its assessment by the education watchdog Ofsted.

The hard work of staff and pupils and support of the parents and community was hailed by headteacher Joel Crawley after the school in Butley Drive was judged as good in all areas by inspectors.

After a two-day inspection at the end of April, Duncan Ramsey, lead inspector said that 'the headteacher, senior leaders and governors have successfully improved pupils' achievements since the last inspection' and the quality of teaching 'is good and improving.'

After an Ofsted inspection in March 2015, the school was previously rated as 'requires improvement.'

Mr Crawley said: 'We were delighted to have been judged 'good' in all areas in our recent Ofsted inspection. Staff have worked extremely hard this year to implement the changes that have resulted in rapid improvements. The pupils have worked equally hard, and our parents and the community have been fully behind us – it has been a real team effort.'

Mr Crawley, who took over as headteacher in September last year, added: 'We were pleased that the inspectors recognised the school's positive, forward looking culture, the wide range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities, and the good progress that all groups of pupils make across all subjects. But we were especially pleased that our work to promote pupils' personal development and welfare was described as outstanding.'

With almost 500 pupils on the school roll, aged between three and 11, Mr Crawley said: 'Being judged 'good' is an achievement worth celebrating, but we will not be resting on our laurels. We are mindful that there is still work to do and we are determined to continue to improve and to make our school the best it can possibly be.'

The Ofsted report said that the quality of education in the early years 'is good' and the partnership with parents 'has been developed well.'

It adds: 'Parents are overwhelmingly supportive of the school and appreciate the effort the school makes to involve them as partners in their child's learning.'
