The Love West Norfolk campaign is getting behind Norfolk Day, the county-wide celebration of everything that makes Norfolk unique and special.

Taking place on Friday, July 27, the day will feature events and activities designed to showcase the best of the county.

Organisers behind Love West Norfolk have given their backing and have organised special events in King’s Lynn and Downham Market.

Councillor Elizabeth Nockolds, deputy leader of West Norfolk council and cabinet member for culture, heritage and health said: “West Norfolk has so much to offer from stunning beaches, to beautiful villages to historic market towns.

“Norfolk Day is a great opportunity to really shout about the things people can see and do in the area.

“I am looking to seeing residents and visitors spending time in the borough enjoying all the events and activities that people are organising as part of the Norfolk Day celebrations.”

Stories of Lynn, Lynn Museum, True’s Yard Museum, and the Custom House are coming together to offer a special Norfolk Day ticket, offering admission at a one-off discounted price.

The theme for the day at the museums will be the life of Frederick Savage, with different activities happening across the sites, all exploring the life of one of Lynn’s famous sons.

The inventor of fairground carousels was born in Hevingham and moved to King’s Lynn in 1848 where he set up St. Nicholas Ironworks. He pioneered the gallopers merry-go-round and showmen engines still in use on most fairgrounds.

Tickets are £8 for an adult, £7 for a concession, £5 for a child or £22 for a family.

Downham Market’s Paint Pots will be holding a Bee Painting day from 11am – 4pm on the day, and Trenowath Place in King’s Lynn will be hosting a barbecue for residents in the summer house area.

Norfolk Day is intended as a day of fun in which individuals, community groups and businesses are encouraged to get involved by hosting or participating in events.
