A lorry has crashed into the level crossing at Attleborough, knocking the barrier onto the track.
The incident happened in Station Road at midday and broke the barrier, though train services are not currently being affected.
A spokesman for Network Rail said a response team was currently on site carrying out repairs to the barrier, which had been completely removed by the impact from the collision.
He added: 'These type of things happen fairly regularly across the country and we have got somebody there and we will fix it.'
A Norfolk police spokesman confirmed police were at the scene and nobody had been injured during the accident.
