Police are urging residents in Long Stratton to be vigilant after receiving reports of a young woman making calls at homes in the area and chalk markings then being found outside some of the addresses.
A police spokesman said there have been social media rumours that these may be linked to the theft of dogs – however chalk marks were also found outside homes where there was no pet dog.
Most people have washed or wiped off the marks after finding them but police are urging residents to be alert for any suspicious activity.
The police spokesman said if anyone suspects a crime may be in progress they should call 999.
The warning comes just weeks after markings were found on homes in the Dereham area.
