The EU referendum certainly took social media by storm this morning as celebrities and politicians reacted to the news that the Leave campaign had been victorious.

The hashtags #EUref and #EURefResults were being used throughout the night as the results were announced.

While many people were thrilled with the result and optimistic about the future there was plenty of frustration and disappointment expressed as well.

The final result showed 51.9pc in favour of Leave and 48.1pc for Remain. Leave took 17.4m votes and Remain had 16.1m.

In East England, Leave dominated, taking 330,000 votes to Remain's 220,700 in Norfolk and Waveney.
