The Wensum Residents' Association is hosting a public meeting to discuss traffic concerns, with members set to raise concerns over the closure of the Sweet Briar Road roundabout next week.

With the roundabout to close from Monday, May 28, until midnight on Friday, June 1, there are fears this could result in increased rat running through Hotblack Road, off Dereham Road.

These concerns will be addressed by John Fisher, chairman of Norwich Highways Agency Committee, who will be attending the meeting along with council officers on Tuesday.

Liam Calvert, chairman of the Wensum Resident's Association said: 'Our research has shown 3,500 vehicles a day use Hotblack Road. That's far too many for a residential road.

'We appreciate roadworks need to be done at some point, but there are concerns over what is being put in place to divert traffic and what impact it will have on the side roads in the area.'

Mr Fisher said: 'I am hoping that by the time of the meeting happens lots of the fears will have been allayed.

'The investigations that went into the decision unfortunately showed closing the roundabout to be the best option and I hope we can show that we did look at every possible option.'

While the roundabout is expected to be one of the main talking points, the meeting also aims to provide members the opportunity to raise any traffic concerns they have.

Mr Calvert added: 'The meeting will provide a real chance for people to have their voices heard and share any fears or concerns they have about our roads.'

Another matter expected to be discussed is a campaign to improve pedestrian crossing measures at the Heigham Street/Mile Cross Road junction.

Launched by mother-of-one Lisa Stannard, the campaign already has the support of more than 600 people, who have signed a petition in its favour.

The meeting will be held at Wensum Community Centre on Hotblack Road from 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 22.
