A road which was due to close this weekend because of work connected to the Norwich Northern Distributor Road will now remain open.

Green Lane West in Rackheath, was due to shut this weekend for work to tie in a new link to the realigned Wroxham Road junction.

The weekends of October 21/22 and October 28/29 had both been scheduled for the closure of Green Lane West, but after reviewing recent progress Balfour Beatty and Norfolk County Council decided it will be possible to complete the tie-in of the junction link road to Green Lane West under a single weekend closure.

Green Lane West will therefore remain open this weekend, but will close as planned the following weekend. The closure does not directly affect the A1151 Wroxham Road, which recently reopened after nine days of work.

Once completed, the NDR will stretch from the A47 at Postwick to the A1067 Fakenham Road.

Cliff Jordan, the leader of Norfolk County Council, recently said the final bill for the 12.5 mile road could top £200m, while councillors will tomorrow consider the possibility of a £160m viaduct to link the road to the A47 to the west of the city.
