A protest was staged on the steps of City Hall in Norwich over the impact of government cuts on disabled people.

Today's demonstration was organised by the Norfolk branch of campaigners Disabled People Against The Cuts.

They held banners calling for the Independent Living Fund not to be stopped, for bedroom tax to be scrapped and criticising the company which conducts tests to determine whether disabled people are fit for work.

At one point city council leader Alan Waters came out of City Hall to talk to the protestors.

They also chanted for universal credit not to be rolled out. That was piloted in Great Yarmouth and is due to arrive in Norwich next summer.

There has been criticism over how claimants have gone without income for weeks, while landlords have not received rent.

Earlier this year, the council called for a redesign of universal credit to end the six week delays in payments, with Labour's Karen Davis saying it would cause 'serious hardship' to some of the most vulnerable people in the city.

MPs this week voted to reduce the wait to four weeks, with Conservative MPs joining the opposition parties in the call for a rethink.
