Controversials proposals for a new Lidl store in Heacham were deferred today, to allow the company to look again at the design and the materials used in the building.
The supermarket chain wants to build on the former Stainsby garage site along the A149, and demolish the existing buildings.
The application was recommended for approval by West Norfolk Council's planning committee.
But the firm wants to give more consideration to using locally distinctive materials and could include an 'element of public art' on the southern elevation of the building.
The council said it was happy to defer the application to January's planning committee meeting.
Heacham Parish Council has objected to the proposals over traffic concerns and the external design of the store.
