Works to improve Sheringham West Promenade sea wall which was severely affected by the December storm surge could start this year.
North Norfolk District Council will be applying for up to £800,000 from the Environment Agency (EA) to bolster the sea defence this year.
A council spokesman said the work was part of ongoing refurbishment.
In March the council estimated West Promenade damage would cost £575,000 to repair.
The authority has written to different bodies including Sheringham Town Council for support with funding, to get as much EA funding as possible.
The town council said last night it supported the work but could not afford to contribute out of its £26,000 capital reserves budget.
It will apply to the Norfolk County Council Coastal Fund for grant funding.
