North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb has urged the government to 'recognise the importance' of the single market and customs union during Brexit negotiations.
Liberal Democrat Mr Lamb spoke out after new research carried out on behalf of the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan warned of thousands of jobs losses if there is a no deal, hard Brexit.
'The report shows that a destructive hard Brexit could do much worse economic damage in regions like the East of England than in London,' he said.
'It says that the impact of crashing out of the single market and the customs union could be 'noticeably more severe' in the East of England.
'It could lead to London sucking up ever more growth, with the East of England losing out on investment, jobs and opportunities as a result. It is vital that we recognise the importance, for our exporters, of the single market and the customs union.'
