The Conservative group at Norfolk County Council has its third leader in just 10 months, following a leadership challenge today.

Cliff Jordan, who had a seven year stint as leader of Breckland Council, replaces Tom FitzPatrick as leader of the 39-strong opposition Conservative group.

Mr Jordan, who represents Yare and All Saints, successfully challenged Mr FitzPatrick at this morning's annual general meeting of the group.

It means Mr FitzPatrick, who represents Fakenham at County Hall and is also leader of North Norfolk District Council, was leader of the Tory group for a little over 10 months. He had replaced the group's former leader Bill Borrett at the annual general meeting in May last year.

The council is currently in no overall political control, but has a rainbow alliance of Labour/UKIP and Independent group/Liberal Democrats, with Labour's George Nobbs the council leader.
