Lowestoft's northern spine road will have a roundabout junction with the A12 instead of traffic lights, if proposals put forward following a change in the law are approved.

Construction of the final section of the much-needed new relief road north of the town is due to start in May 2014, but the plans are now being amended to include a roundabout junction with the A12 at Corton by Corton Long Lane.

It follows a change to planning laws, made by the government last month, which relaxes the rules around nationally important highways projects.

A revised planning application will be submitted by the end of the year.
