Gym-goers are to benefit from a host of improvements as a leisure centre's vision for a £2m expansion was given the green light.
South Norfolk Council gave the go-ahead to refurbishments and the expansion of Long Stratton Leisure Centre, in Swan Lane.
Improvements will be made to the sports hall and changing rooms, along with a new multi-use studio, spinning studio and new equipment.
A first-floor extension will be built - with a cafe and a soft play area being created ,as well as general works being completed on the site.
South Norfolk Council cabinet member, Yvonne Bendle, said: 'South Norfolk Council understands the importance of looking after the health and well-being of our residents and we also recognise the need to ensure that new infrastructure projects are built at the same time as planned housing growth.
'Our investment in Long Stratton Leisure centre will make it a state of the art facility that will serve the whole community for many years to come.
'At a time when other authorities are closing their leisure centres this underlines our commitment to providing the sports and social hubs that our communities are asking for.'
As well as the changes to the building the car park will be redesigned to accommodate 14 more spaces.
South Norfolk Council, which runs the centre, hopes the refurbishment will help meet extra demand due to the more than 1,800 new homes planned for the village.
It also hopes the investment will provide 'appealing yet affordable leisure facilities' and will become a 'community hub where friends and family can spend quality time together'.
South Norfolk Council has already invested £4m in its leisure centre in Wymondham, where there is also housing growth taking place. The council says that since the centre re-opened the investment has resulted in an 87pc increase in membership.
The council held a consultation period for the plans in the leisure centre, with the plans on display to the public for a week at the beginning of July last year.
It received support from Long Stratton Parish Council and received no objections from members of the public.
