A candlelit vigil is being held in protest at plans to open part of a bus and cycle route to all traffic.
West Norfolk council wants to open up part of Hardings Way, in South Lynn, to provide access to land earmarked for development.
But people living around the route fear the move will lead to the entire route being opened.
Parents fear more traffic, particularly lorries, would pose a risk to children walking to Whitefriars School.
County councillor Alexandra Kemp has organised the vigil at the Quaker Meeting House, in Bridge Street on Saturday, May 12 (10am - 8pm).
She said: 'If you want Hardings Way South to stay as it is, for the good of all the local community, for walkers, cyclists, families, disabled people and children walking to school, and not to be opened up to HGV's and all traffic, it is really important to come along and show your support.'
