A fly-tipper has been fined £600 and ordered to pay £1,000 in costs after illegally dumping waste in North Norfolk.

John Jonas, 45, of East Runton, near Cromer, pleaded guilty at Norwich magistrates' court last week to illegally dumping waste, including clothes, toys, cardboard and paper, in a field along Hall Road, Cromer, in April last year.

North Norfolk District Council continues to crack down on this form of anti-social behaviour, and spent £40,000 in clean-up costs last year.

Annie Claussen-Reynolds, the council's portfolio holder for waste and environmental services, said: 'This demonstrates once again that we are serious about tackling this issue, which is a blight on our communities.

'Whenever we have sufficient evidence to take these matters to court, we will prosecute. There is never an excuse to fly-tip, and we are determined to stamp it out.'
