Flags have been flying at half-mast at County Hall and Breckland, as further tributes were paid to former Norfolk County Council leader Cliff Jordan.
Norfolk County Council has been receiving letters of condolence following Mr Jordan's death, surrounded by his family, at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on Saturday.He stood down as County Hall leader and as a county councillor just last month, after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.
Tributes are continuing to be paid to the 73-year-old. who had represented Yare and All Saints on the council since 2001. He became leader of the Conservative group in March 2015, before becoming council leader in May the following year.
The Norfolk County Council flag at County Hall was flown at half-mast, as was the case at Breckland Council's offices, where Mr Jordan served as a councillor from 1991 until 2015 and led the authority from 1998 to 2005.
William Nunn, Breckland Council's leader, said: 'I was deeply saddened by the news of Cliff's passing, particularly so soon after standing down from his role at the county council. I knew Cliff for a very long time and he will be deeply missed.
'Cliff was Norfolk through and through and he dedicated almost three decades of his life to public service. Anybody who met him was left with no doubt that he was a straight-talking champion of the county who wanted to make Norfolk a better place.'
At a meeting of North Norfolk District Council's cabinet today, leader John Lee paid tribute. He told councillors: 'You will have heard of the sad death of Cliff Jordan and on behalf of North Norfolk District Council I would like to send our condolences to his family.
'I met Cliffy a few times and he was a huge character who will be greatly missed.'
Clive Lewis, Norwich South Labour MP, said: 'Cliff was a larger-than-life, warm character in Norfolk politics and I am very sad to hear of his passing.
'While he may have had a very different political vision for Norfolk than my party, I never doubted his passion for the county he was born and brought up in and the people who live in it.'
Messages of condolence can be sent to the leader's office, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DH and they will be passed on to Mr Jordan's family.
