A fruit and vegetable trader will be able to sell produce to the public from the company's wholesale warehouse after planners granted permission.

CC Wells, which has market stalls through the week across the county and a warehouse in Dereham, was originally told that it was against council policy to allow retail from its industrial estate storage site on the edge of town.

But after it was able to prove that a town centre shop was not viable, and with a wave of public support, the council gave permission for the change of use to mixed - storage, wholesale and retail.

A report to the committee said business owner Darren Pegrum was able to prove available town centre premises were either too big or too small, with inadequate access, lack of parking/delivery areas and were too difficult to achieve a refrigerated/temperature controlled environment.
