A Norwich craft beer bar has been temporarily stripped of its licence to provide outdoor seating by the city council.

Fans of Scottish brewery BrewDog have previously been able to sup their various beers on benches outside the bar on Queens Street.

However, the pub has been forced to reapply to offer this amenity, after being told by Norwich City Council they had breached the terms of their tables and chairs licence.

A spokesman for the city council said: 'BrewDog have had to reapply for the licence for the outdoor seating due to non-compliance of their previous licence.

'They did not meet the conditions of the licence and so it was revoked.

'The owner was notified of the requirements to remedy the issue before any action took place.'

After the original licence was revoked, the company has now been required to submit a fresh application, to allow it to once again offer outdoor seating.

The application seeks permission for the bar to seat 24 people outside, across six picnic-style benches.

Customers would be permitted to sit outside seven days a week, between 11am and 11pm, with the furniture stored inside the bar out of these hours.

One of the pioneers of the craft beer movement, BrewDog has more than 30 different bars across the United Kingdom, including its location in Norwich.

The Norwich branch opened in April 2016, and has since also seen the addition of a bottle shop, where visitors can purchase bottled brews to takeaway, both of the Scottish company and other craft brewers.

The bar on Queen Street recently also became a cycling club house as part of an initiative launched by the independent brewers called BrewDog Chain Gang.

Prior to becoming a BrewDog bar in 2016, the bar had several different names and owners, including Whites, The Hogshead and Knowhere.

A spokesman for the brewery was not available to comment on the situation and the Norwich bar declined to.

Norwich City Council did not confirm exactly what the non-compliance from BrewDog was, but did confirm receipt of the new application.
