From potato peelings and uneaten Brussels sprouts, to piles of torn off wrapping paper and toy packaging, Christmas is a season that creates a lot of extra waste.

And Breckland council is encouraging residents to check they know their bin collection dates throughout the festive period.

While a normal collection schedule will run until Friday December 22, households will need to put their bins out on a different day from the week of Christmas itself, until mid-January.

This temporary schedule includes black recycling bins, green general waste bins, and brown garden waste bins, and normal collection will resume from Monday January 15.

People are also reminded that extra recycling created over the festive period will be collected from the kerbside on recycling collection days, if it is left next to a recycling bin, unbagged and in an unsealed cardboard box.

Residents can search for their festive bin collection dates by entering their postcode into the council website portal.

Information is also available on the bin collection calendar sent to every household in the district earlier this year and online. Information about waste recycling centre opening times is also available online.
