Today the English Defence League (EDL) is holding its first protest in Norwich and we will be keeping a close eye on proceedings through a live blog.

There is a heavy police presence around the city to ensure that the demonstration remains peaceful, as there is also a counter demonstration organised by a group called We are Norwich.

The likes of The Norwich Pride Collective, Chapelfield Mosque, Norwich Trades Council and Unison Norfolk County branch are just some of the organisations which have formed the We Are Norwich group.

The EDL is due to march from Castle Gardens to City Hill, via Gaol Hill, from 1pm and We Are Norwich are due to move from Chapelfield Gardens to arrive at City Hall, via Hayhill, at around 12.30pm.

Our reporters and photographers will be live at the scene, follow their tweets via the live blog below and use the hashtag #Norwichprotest on Twitter to make your own contributions.
