A lifeboat was called after a man entered the water off South Quay in Great Yarmouth this morning.

The Great Yarmouth and Gorleston inshore lifeboat was scrambled after Humber Coastguard operations centre received a call at 6.20am today.

Police had been called to the scene at 6.15am following concerns for a man on the harbour wall, and officers called the coastguard after the man entered the water.

The man was recovered from the water by the lifeboat crew and was met by paramedics once ashore.

He has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
