The inshore lifeboat was called to search around the town's pier after fears someone was in the sea at 7.20pm on Thursday, July 18.

RNLI spokeswoman Audrey Smith said: "Following a call from the UK Coastguard, Cromer's inshore lifeboat George and Muriel was asked to assist in a search for a missing person.

"The inshore lifeboat was launched at around 7.25pm on Thursday, July 18, to reports of a person in distress somewhere along the seafront on the East Beach in Cromer

"The weather conditions were still bright, with a slight breeze and still water.

"After a sweep around the pier and then along the stretch of water from Cromer to Overstrand and back, the distressed person was eventually found by the other emergency services.

"The Cromer crew brought the inshore lifeboat back to station and its was cleaned down, refuelled and rehoused by 8.05pm."
