STEVE DOWNES

Scores of learners will celebrate their achievements at an awards ceremony tonight in two buildings representing the best of Norwich's past and present.

The Norwich City College further education awards ceremony will be held at 6.30pm at St Peter Mancroft church - followed by a reception and party in The Forum opposite the church.

The awards, which are being held for the third year, recognise students who have excelled on a wide range of courses, including A-levels, apprenticeships, national diplomas and Prince's Trust programmes.

Winners will include students who have overcome literacy and numeracy problems and people with learning difficulties. One hundred and one awards will be made in total.

College principal Dick Palmer said: “We want to put further education in the spotlight on this evening and show our local community the fantastic achievement of people learning vocations and gaining skills and qualifications that will be of service and value in their community.

“We are very excited to be holding our awards in the dual location of St Peter Mancroft church and The Forum, which in themselves represent all that is great about Norwich - its proud tradition and history, and its exciting and confident vision of its future.”

The students will receive awards in categories including excellence in learning, academic achievement, outstanding progression and achievement in adversity.

Every award has been sponsored by local industry, and representatives from all of the companies and organisations involved will be at the ceremony to present the awards.
