A traditional summer event has helped to mark the Queen's 90th birthday as large crowds gathered in Diss to celebrate a colourful and fun-filled carnival.

The ninth annual Diss Carnival and Fun Day saw a colourful procession journey through the town yesterday afternoon as hundreds of people filled the market place to cheer on the participants.

The theme of the parade was the Queen's 90th birthday and some participants dressed up as the Royal Family – including the town's Rotary club members.

As the parade snaked through the town people waved at the floats, which included local Guides and Brownies, a steam engine from Bressingham Steam and Gardens, a Norwich samba band, nursery groups, Diss firefighters, volunteer first responders, Dinsdale the duck mascot and the mayor of Diss.

The parade made its way to the home of Diss Town Football Club where a fun day kept families busy with activities such as a Rollapaluza cycle challenge, a Bazza Bizarre circus workshop, magician Sean Goodman and live music.

Yesterday's event was the last to be organised by co-ordinator Doreen Collins and the event's committee.

Mrs Collins said: 'It was quite emotional actually because when I was on Market Hill I thought 'this is my last one'. I think to be fair there were more people there this time than last year.

'It was nice to see so many people out.

'I think I have made the right decision. I think we have taken this as far as we can. Someone needs to come in and a take a different approach.'
