Nothing is better than an ice cream on a hot summer's day.

And if Norfolk Day is a scorcher, one of the county's ice cream producers is all set to do its best to keep everyone cool.

The 97-year-old Lakenham Creamery will host a special event to celebrate our great county, with its factory on Trafalgar Street open to the public from 10amon July 27.

The Factory Fun Day is complete with ice cream sample tasting, free face painting and a specially designed leaflet on their top-secret ice cream creating methods.

Plans include; dad's outrageous shirt competition, special discounts at the factory shop, live music and the opportunity to pose with a Harley Davidson.

All profits for the Factory Fun Day will go to local charities, East Anglian Children's Hospices and Autism Anglia.

Businessman, Chris Coughlan has owned the creamery for 26 years.

He purchased the company from the original family who launched it in 1921.

Mr Coughlan said: 'We thought being almost 100-years-old, we would have to celebrate Norfolk Day,

'We will put it on in our yard, with free face painting and a whole range of ice cream flavours to taste and we will also have special discounts only on the day.'

The award-winning Norwich creamery has been delivering their products to the Queen at Sandringham Estate for 15 years.

The quality of the ice-cream and the exotic flavours have been acknowledged more than 30 times by Great Taste Gold.

The elite fine-food competition has considered the product as 'faultless'.

Mr Coughlan encourages the whole family to attend the Norfolk Day event, either donning a vibrant Hawaiian shirt, a multi-coloured button-up or bright pink shirt.

Entry for a family of five will cost £5, and children under the age of ten will be allowed in for free.

For adults and children over the age of ten entry is £2.

More details about the event will be posted on the Lakenham Creamery Facebook page.
