A King’s Lynn Rotary Club member is taking part in a sponsored road trip for charity.

Ron Jackson and his daughter Susan, who comes from Newcastle, are visiting 12 of the 24 check points set up around the country for Purple4Polio.

It aims to raise money to immunise children in countries where polio still occurs and raise awareness of the disease.

Rotary clubs around the world have been campaigning to eliminate polio for more than 30 years. While 99pc of the world is now free of the disease there are still pockets in remote areas.

Mr Jackson and his daughter aim to head west and north to St Andrews on the trip, finishing at Halifax where a grand reception is being planned. Members of the King’s Lynn club have sponsored the team and are appealing for support from other clubs in East Anglia.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the King’s Lynn team should call 07813 937071.
