Lynn’s first farmers market brings hundreds of shoppers to the town centre

The revival of a Saturday market in the heart of historic King's Lynn proved a sell-out success.
Hundreds of shoppers visited the first farmers market of the year in the Saturday Market Place, tempted by the variety of local produce on offer.
From gourmet doughnuts and macarons to traditional pies and meats, traders were left overjoyed after selling out most of their handmade goods by midday.
Becky Atkins, of Mrs A's Bakes, said: 'It's been really good, it's so nice having people out to support the stalls, so many people have said to us this is what King's Lynn needed.'
Bakeshack treats also proved a hit with shoppers, with their handmade traditional pies infused with oriental ingredients and spices.

Owner Nora Chan said the uniqueness of artisan foods by local traders is what drew most people to the market.
'I think it is because it's handmade and not mass-produced, everyone is doing something different instead of the usual run-of-the-mill,' she added.

Organised by the West Norfolk council and King's Lynn BID, the market will return on the second Saturday of every month and will run from 9am to 2pm.
With the first market proving a popular addition to Saturday trading, it is hoped that it will bring more shoppers into the town centre following a dip in footfall numbers.
Vice-Chair of Discover King's Lynn Abbie Panks said: 'It's something the public have been wanting for a long time, it's been lovely to see lots of people who have come here to leave with something.'
Ms Panks believes changing attitudes to shopping, with shoppers becoming more conscious about what they buy, played a hand in the market's success.
'I think it's because people like to know where their food has come from and where it's been made,' she said. 'People love that they can talk to the person who has made that product.'
The market quickly became a family community as traders helped out nearby businesses which also benefited from the large crowds of people visiting the High Street.
Just a stones throw away on the end of the High Street is Smiths the Bakers, which opened their doors in October last year.
Staff members were able to make a quick trip to the market to stock up on supplies after experiencing an exceptionally busy morning.
Owner Teresa Brandon said: 'We've had a lot more people in this end of town, there were queues outside the door.'
