A man who told his family he had abstained from substance abuse was found dead in his home after an overdose.

Darren Witham, 45, died at his home in Alma Chase, Terrington St Clement, on March 5 this year.

An inquest at King's Lynn Coroner's Court on Friday, October 12 heard he was found lying on the bedroom floor by his fiancée Paula Wright.

In her statement, which was read out in court, she said Mr Witham took prescription medication and as far as she knew was not taking class A drugs.

But a post mortem report revealed he had high levels of morphine from heroin and tested positive for a number of other prescribed medication.

His GP, Dr Imran Ahmed, from St Clements Surgery, said in his statement that Mr Witham 'was a chronic user of medication' and took higher doses than he was prescribed.

Assistant coroner Johanna Thompson said the medical cause of death was mixed drug toxicity and recorded his death as drug-related.
