Part of a North Lynn road collapses after water main burst.

Workmen are repairing a water main in North Lynn which burst this morning and caused part of the road to collapse.

Estuary Road should be re-opened in time for the evening traffic, but repairs will not be fully completed until tomorrow.

The fire service and police were called to the scene just after noon today when the hole in the road appeared and revealed a gas main,

A spokesman for Anglian Water said when its team arrived they discovered a 12 inch PVC main had burst and the water leaking from it had washed away a large amount of soil, undermining a four square metre section of the road which was then closed for safety reasons.

'Work to repair the burst was delayed by the presence of a gas main in the area but should be completed this afternoon.

'However, it will take longer to repair the road. We hope to have half the road re-opened this evening to allow traffic past, but the repair will not be fully completed until tomorrow.

'Anglian Water would like to apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly and safely as possible.'
