World Book Night will be coming to King's Lynn when the town's Waterstone's has free books to give away tonight.

The store has 48 copies of Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters, to give away and assistant manager David Learner is expecting a bit of a rush as the store stays open to 7pm to mark the event.

'Fingersmith is a real page-turner set in Victorian London in the seedy underworld that Dickens wrote so brilliantly about,' he said.

Another box of books is being given away by Downham Market man Graham Evans who was one of 20,000 chosen to have free copies to distribute on World Book Night.

He chose All Quiet on the Western Front from the list of available titles and will be in London celebrating a 40th birthday tonight where guests will be handed a copy.

'I read it for the first time when I was doing my O-levels. It doesn't hold back. It's gritty, realistic and a startling book that everyone who is anti-war should read.'

Written by Erich Maria Remarque, the novel sees the first world war through the eyes of a German soldier.

Mr Evans collected his box of books from Waterstone's ready for his trip to Harrow. The store will also hold a book group meeting where members of the public are invited to go along tonight with their favourite book and share it over a cup of tea.

World Book Night has been organised to celebrate the best of adult books and it is hoped a million copies, from a list of 25 titles, will be given away by 20,000 'givers' who registered to take part in the national event.
