An inquest into the death of an elderly woman who died in a car crash has been delayed pending a criminal retrial.

Joan Jackson, 85, died from the injuries she received after an accident on the A47 in King's Lynn on July 12, 2015.

She had been travelling with driver Leonard Birtles, 91, of Chichester Road, Cleethorpes.

Mr Birtles had been charged with causing death by careless driving and his case was heard in Norwich Crown Court on August 6.

The crown court heard Mr Birtles had been driving back home after a holiday in Great Yarmouth when the accident happened near the Hardwick roundabout.

But after more than six hours of deliberations the jury were unable to reach a majority verdict.

At a pre-inquest review this morning, senior coroner Jacqueline Lake said a retrial will take place on Monday, January 21.

She adjourned the inquest for a further review on Wednesday, February 6.
