A Norfolk charity is lighting up two of Norwich's most well known landmarks to mark Baby Loss Awareness week.

Running from October 9 to 15, Baby Loss Awareness Week is a national event which aims to raise awareness of the issues affecting those who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy or baby.

To mark the close of the week, on October 15, both City Hall and Norwich Castle will be lit in pink and blue.

There will also be a candle lit vigil on the steps of City Hall which will form part of a wave of light which will sweep across the country.

The Norwich events have been organised by Jessica's Wish, a fundraiser set up by Susan and Robert Goreham from Salhouse following the death of their daughter, Jessica in 2006.

Mrs Goreham explained why marking Baby Loss Awareness Week was so important: 'It's a week where people like myself and my husband and many other grieving parents try to raise more awareness of this taboo subject, we want all our babies to be spoken about and remembered.'

The 44-year-old sales assistant said she thought the subject was often stigmatised because people were unsure of how to talk about the loss of a baby.

'We just want to remind people to think and talk about the babies that have been lost. I think people don't know how to speak to people about it or are they're frightened of upsetting the parents, so they thinks it's better to avoid it' she said.

Mrs Goreham said her advice to any parents or families coming to terms with the loss of a baby would be to talk about the child as much as they wanted and not to be afraid to do so.

'Be strong if you can and be proud of your angel baby, don't be afraid to speak about them.'

Norwich Castle will be lit up in pink and blue lights for the duration of Baby Loss Awareness week.

At 7pm on October 15, there will be candle lighting and live music on the steps of City Hall, for more information on the event visit the event facebook page.
