Mr and Mrs Slater, of Tunstead Road, Hoveton, celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on September 21, which is also Annie's 75th birthday.

And on September 30 the couple will also raise a glass to the 12th anniversary of Lewis, now 86, surviving a debilitating stroke which left him paralysed down one side with very limited language.

In honour of the occasions Mrs Slater will sing with the Old Codgers jazz band at Walcott's Lighthouse Inn this Sunday, from 12.30pm to 3pm as part of a fund-raising afternoon which will also include a raffle. All welcome.

Proceeds will go to the Worstead Members' Club at Meeting Hill towards a heated cabin in the grounds for clients who want peace, away from the activities on offer to elderly visitors.

Since her husband's stroke Mrs Slater has raised more than £20,000 for a variety of causes – including The Alzheimer's Society, Stroke Association and Norfolk cancer charity Big C - through singing with various jazz combos, and selling her homemade jams and marmalade.

She once worked as a civilian at North Walsham police station where she also served as a Special Constable.

? Mrs Slater will be auctioning this watercolour painting of Pull's Ferry, Norwich, by artist Bob Lee, for the cause. Anyone who would like to put in a bid for it should ring 01603 783204.
