Jake Humphrey has praised the power of social media after videos of the presenter defending female sports pundits were viewed by almost one and a half million people.

Ahead of a discussion with former England and Everton goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis, the Norfolk-born BT Sport presenter spoke out about the 'unbelievable sexism' faced by female pundits in a video on Twitter.

'There needs to be outcry about the fact we're calling them out because they're women,' he said. 'It's absolute nonsense to say it's because they've not played the game because Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger didn't play football to the highest level.

'They researched, and they prepped, and they watched, and they learned, and they listened and they improved themselves.

'They did all that and ended up managing some of the biggest clubs in the world, so it's not just about playing football is it?'

He added: 'If we were talking about the colour of someone's skin and saying they couldn't be a pundit for that reason.

'If we were talking about someone's social class and saying they couldn't be a pundit for that reason, there would be outcry.'

That video and the following discussion on BT Sport has now been watched almost one and a half millions times something Mr Humphrey described as 'brilliant, but ridiculous'.

He tweeted on Monday: 'The power & reach of social media still blows my mind. Almost 1.5m views on these important 2 videos in 48 hours.'

Mrs Brown-Finnis, who has 82 England caps, said on the Premier League Tonight show: 'We've played for England, we've been to World Cups, we've been to European Championships, played at the Olympics, played at the top level, played at the elite level.

'And, of course, we don't play men's football, because we're not men. So take that comparison away, it's ridiculous.'
