ITV is to close its production business in Norwich, with 35 jobs at risk.

ITV Studios - the production company arm of ITV - will close its base in Norwich, where it makes factual programmes such as Safari Vet School and Wild Britain with Ray Mears.

It will mean the only programme which will continue to be made in Norwich by the network is the Anglia news programme.

ITV Studios is one of the largest commercial production companies in the UK, making programmes like Coronation treet, Emmerdale, Dancing on Ice and Come Dine With Me.

However, it says that it is now not making enough programmes at Anglia House, in Agricultural Hall Plain, to be able to continue funding a base there.

A spokeswoman for ITV Studios said: 'As part of the ITV Transformation Plan, ITV Studios is going through a period of change, including ensuring all of our operations are as efficient as possible.

'Unfortunately our production volume in Norwich is no longer at the level necessary to sustain the overheads and investment needs of this regional production office.

'This has led to the decision to close ITV Studios' Norwich based production operation in the first half of this year. During the coming weeks we will be working with staff affected by this change to discuss potential opportunities elsewhere in the business.

'The Anglia news operation is not affected by this decision and we remain committed to regional production.'

There will also still be a commercial team based in Norwich selling advertising air time.

Consultation is due to start with the 35 affected members of staff next week, with ITV saying it will work to redeploy as many members of staff as possible.
