Is cycling the easiest way to travel around King’s Lynn?
The frustration of getting stuck in King’s Lynn town centre’s notorious traffic gridlock is something all too many people in this great West Norfolk town have experienced.
However until a year ago, little did I realise it was completely unnecessary.
As King’s Lynn and West Norfolk reporter, I automatically jumped in the car thinking it would be the quickest and easiest way to cover the news - only to be frustrated by the incredibly slow traffic.
The stretch around Blackfriars Road, St James’ Road and London Road in particular took an eternity.
So when I returned as West Norfolk editor last year, I thought I’d try something different.
By cycling, I soon found I was getting to places quicker than I could drive to them, as I was able to bypass the traffic.
With so much amazing history around King’s Lynn, it also enabled me to take in the town’s amazing sights while enjoying the fresh air and getting some exercise.
The weather can be a downside, but I make sure to pack waterproofs and plenty of warm clothing.
The time saved though easily outweighs any groggy weather. Now all we need is more cycle lanes and paths in King’s Lynn, to make it even quicker and easier to get around on two wheels.
