An investigation has been launched after two women who work for a King's Lynn spa were pictured joking around and standing in a large pair of trousers went viral on social media.

Mosaic Spa and Health Clubs, which runs the Imagine Spa at Knights Hill, King's Lynn is looking into the circumstances surrounding the image, which show two staff members standing side-by-side each in a leg of the trousers.

The post, which was posted on the Imagine Health and Spa Facebook page, alleges the trousers belonged to a former staff member who had left because she claimed she was being bullied at work.

Despite being promptly removed, within hours it had been shared by 2000 users of the social media platform.

Dave Courteen, the Managing Director of Mosaic Spa and Health Clubs, explained the investigation process is already underway into the photograph, which he says was actually taken in May 2015.

He said: 'We will be carrying out the investigation internally, and we are not going to be doing that over social media and certainly not commenting in the press about it.

'We have been in business for 30 years and never discriminate against employees or guests' backgrounds, and body shape comes into that as well. In addition to that, accusations of bullying are also taken seriously and they always have been at our company.'

He added: 'Our social media policy is that staff should not post anything on their own private social media accounts that relates to our business or whilst they are in uniform without checking with us first.

'But it is important that we look into the background and circumstances behind the post as part of the investigation.'

Mosaic Spas employs 450 staff at 24 sites across the country including those at the Park Farm Hotel in Hethersett, Willow Farm in Blofield Heath and The Old Hall Hotel, Health & Spa at Caister-on-Sea.
