Sean Sands, 49, of Folgate Road, Heacham, died on March 7 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.

His body was formally identified by his brother Matthew Sands.

Opening the inquest, assistant coroner David Osborne said: “Mr Sands had been kite-surfing at Hunstanton when he got into difficulty.

“He was hauled from the water by other kite-surfers who performed CPR.”

He was taken to hospital by air ambulance but could not be saved.

The preliminary medical cause of death was given as asphyxiation and drowning.

Mr Osborne adjourned the hearing for a full inquest at King’s Lynn County Court on July 6.
