A familiar face in Attleborough has handed the civic baton to a new town mayor.

Former mayor Karen Pettitt has stepped down as a town councillor after seven years, having raised £7,040 for the town football club and Shootability over the last year.

Among her achievements, Mrs Pettitt, who is now a district councillor for the town, listed funding the trim trail and the new Queens Square railings as highlights.

Councillor John Taylor was elected as the town's new mayor on Monday, with Tony Perkins as his deputy.

Mr Taylor, 57, has lived in Attleborough for 28 years. He said that his priorities for the year were ensuring community groups were 'at the forefront' of the town, as well as improving infrastructure.

'We need everything - sports facilities, doctors surgeries, roads, new education facilities,' he said. 'Our neighbourhood plan is progressing, but there is work to do.'
