An Independent councillor has decided to join the Conservatives after being 'very impressed' with how the party handled the King's Lynn incinerator debacle.
Former Independent Marcus Hopkins, who has represented St Germans on West Norfolk Council for three years, has joined the borough's 40-strong ruling Tory group.
He said: 'After seeing how well the Conservatives did with the fight to stop the incinerator going ahead, I was very impressed and want to be a part of the follow-up.
'I feel that to be part of the party will enable me to have more involvement and it is harder to do that when you are part of a very small group as an Independent – it doesn't have the same impact.'
Conservative council leader Nick Daubney said he was very pleased to have Mr Hopkins on board.
He said: 'Marcus Hopkins has joined the Conservatives due to the direction we are going and the decisions we are making. The way he has voted has always been our way of thinking.'
