A group of Norwich illustrators have created a set of Christmas cards to raise money for the Hamlet Centre Trust charity which provides support to children and young adults with disabilities and complex health needs.

The collective of illustrators known as Beast is made up of six artists – Grace Sandford, David Hurtado, Fiona Gowen, Karl Newson, Kellee Rich and Mark Standbrook.

Each card from the set has a unique style and theme by each illustrator with a purple and gold colour scheme.

Miss Sandford, 22, from St Stephen's, Norwich, graduated from the University of Lincoln two months ago and helped set up the collective last month.

She said: 'I grew up in Norwich so I came back as a freelance illustrator. I wanted to set up a group where you could meet up and chat every couple of weeks.

'We meet fortnightly at the Mustard coffee bar in Bridewell Alley, Norwich and Norwich Playhouse.

'I suggested that we all create Christmas cards. I love it that many Christmas cards are done for charity and the Hamlet Trust does some brilliant work.'

The other members of Beast are mainly freelance graphic designers and illustrators.

Mr Hurtado has more than 15 years experience in the graphic field, while Fiona Gowen has worked as a graphic designer in both the publishing industry and the heritage sector since graduating from University College Falmouth with a first class degree in illustration.

She worked in London for information publishers Dorling Kindersley, and more recently for Ugly Studios, which specialises in design for museums and heritage sites.

Karl Newson is a freelance artist and illustrator while Kellee Rich is an artist working mainly with brush and pen, using ink, watercolour and gouache.

Mark Standbrook's 13 years in the creative industries have been packed with all manner of illustration, design and art-working briefs.
