Broadcaster and journalist Ian Hislop was spreading goodwill while filming a new documentary in Norwich today.

His new show, which is about philanthropy and bankers, will be aired on BBC2 in six months time.

Dressed in a suit, the Have I Got News for You star was asking passers-by in the city if they knew who was on the back of a 5 note.

If the person correctly answered Elizabeth Fry, Mr Hislop let them keep the money.

The editor of Private Eye spend the day filming in Norwich and was seen in Gentleman's Walk, London Street and outside the OPEN venue.

Fans tweeted about their success of winning 5 notes.

He appears in Norwich just weeks after telling Radio 4 listeners how he persuaded journalist Andrew Marr to publicly reveal his extra marital affair after he was protected by a super injunction.

His last series for the BBC was about influential Victorians who helped to mend broken Britain.
