The family of a much-loved mum-of-two who died following a long battle with a heart condition has marked an important milestone at the unveiling of new community defibrillator set up in her memory.

The husband and children of Janyne Durrant-Pratt, who died just a day before her 41st birthday at Papworth Hospital in 2012, were joined by family members at Drayton Junior School to see the results of months of fundraising for the lifesaving equipment.

Martin Durrant-Pratt, 44, explained that his wife had been a passionate supporter of a campaign to have more defibrillators in public places after a Frettenham Primary School teacher used one to save her life in November 2010, when she had a cardiac arrest.

He said: 'She was the person that instigated the fundraising for defibs when she herself was taken ill. After she passed away we could have said enough is enough but we needed to keep it going because she started all this so it was the right thing to do.

'She would have felt so overwhelmed if she was here to see the unveiling. She would have been over the moon.'

Mrs Durrant-Pratt had two heart attacks in 2002 while pregnant and was diagnosed with left ventricular failure - a condition that meant her heart was not pumping effectively on the left side.

Her daughters Sophie, 17 - a former Drayton Junior student - and Lucie, 12, were also present at yesterday's unveiling and said it was emotional.

Sophie, now a student at Paston College, said: 'I'm really happy that mum's wishes have come true. She always wanted to get defibs in the community and I think mum would have been very proud. I wish she was here to see it.'

Lucie, 12, of Broadland High, said: 'I think the equipment will help and reassure the community.'

Mrs Durrant-Pratt's mum and dad Diane and Anthony Durrant were also present at the unveiling, along with her sister and brother-in-law Elise and Nathan Woodgate, and their children Poppy, 12, and Daisy-Bo, 10 - currently a Drayton Junior student.

They said they felt 'proud' of what had been achieved and of the hard work which had gone into raising the money.

Anybody wanting to make a donation to the JDP Defibrillator Fund can send a cheque made payable to the fund to 12 School Road, Frettenham, Norfolk, NR12 7LL.
